The OS Archive Project, or OSsRepo, is an ongoing archival and research initiative dedicated to documenting, exploring, and preserving classic operating systems! Currently my focus is on operating systems from around 1990 to 2012. One of the biggest but exciting challenges of this project is that I must use hardware from the era of the operating system. The goal is to recreate an near authentic usage of the OS as it would have been experienced at that time. From the installation itself to the software and of course the games.
In addition to official releases, the project will also cover developer builds and beta versions. For the time being only the most notable or historically significant beta releases will be included (No random longhorn beta)
The documentation will be organized around the following main sections:
- Overview: A general introduction to the operating system.
- History: The background and development history of the operating system.
- Machine Overview: An introduction to the hardware on which the OS will be installed.
- Installation Process: A step-by-step guide, from preparing the machine to completing the system setup.
- Design Overview: A look at the system’s design principles, architecture, and user interface.
- Breakthroughs and Notable Features: Key innovations and interesting features that were significant at the time.
- Daily Usage: Exploring how the system was used in its era, including demonstrations of period-appropriate software, games, music and other kind of medias.
The project documentation will soon be posted here : oss.oginenoel.com
Videos will also be publish on my Youtube channel
